If she is so good, how come her book published in 1994 has a total of 2 reviews in Amazon, a 1 star and a 5 star? (Averaging 3 stars, plus or minus 2….)
2 reviews in 9 years? That is not a book that sold very well!
Well, she would appear to be using mockery to make her “argument”. I believe she’s attempting satire, though she’s pretty heavy handed at it. She’s not having a “discussion”, she is simply mocking and basically undignified. And not just here, it is her primary mode across all her pages.
I thought she was just a Mom who preferred medicalized childbirth.
Finding out she’s a retired doctor, puts a whole different spin on it. She’s not just arrogant, she fits the stereotype of “arrogant doctor”, however wrong it is in some cases, it seems to fit here.
People did not used to question doctors, but they do now. That is wise, for they are are motivated by several things –
not just patient welfare.
The argument made in the source is based on a misunderstanding of human physiology. (I can explain that further if you are interested.) And for what? To mommy-judge, which seems to be a sport over on that site. (You’re bad if you don’t breastfeed! You’re bad if you don’t breastfeed the way WE say you should!)
Yes Dr Amy has mocked it. It’s her blog, she can say what she likes. No-one has to like it, or agree with it. And if you head onto the correct page (I think linked to the text rather than here, which is linked to the picture), you will find the discussion.
It sounds like you disagree with Dr Amy’s conclusion. That’s okay, but your counter-argument is to say she’s mean and no-one likes her anyway? I don’t think you’re convincing anyone that she’s wrong with that approach.
You find her impressive? I don’t. She’s simply obnoxious. She has been a doctor. That is not particularly impressive. Doctors are DOCTORS in her book. Not mine. They are “flowcharters” who stick to “established practice” because it is billable and don’t necessarily care about patient outcome or ethics.
I think she’s incorrect about several things -and she IS an arrogant ex doctor. She is clearly unable to see some things objectively. It is a shame.
She’s also reduced herself to a caricature of herself.
I watched her rather mean spirited community for a good year before commenting once. It was a total waste of time. She apparently is a support group for annoyed mothers. They are mostly like a pack of hyenas. They revel in misery. Not every one, but still.
I don’t waste my time with her any more. Shes’s apparently mostly self serving. A community of one apparently. An
d incorrect.
No I don’t have to debate this with you. Anyone here is so far into her world, you are probably a lackey.
Dr. Amy Tuteur is an obstetrician gynecologist. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard College in 1979 and her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1984. Dr. Tuteur is a former clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School. She left the practice of medicine to raise her four children. Her book, Push Back: Guilt in the Age of Natural Parenting (HarperCollins) was published in 2016. She can be reached at DrAmy5 at aol dot com...

Wow, that’s a really persuasive argument. Thanks for a helpful contribution to the discussion.
