Announcing …

3d Heart in a trap

My new book!

For the last few months I’ve been working on a book proposal. I’m happy to say that it garnered a lot of interest among editors and publishing houses, and ultimately went to auction.

Guilt Trap: New Motherhood and the Natural Parenting Industry will be published next year by Dey Street Books, an imprint of Harper Collins.

From the proposal:

[I hope that] Guilt Trap will bring desperately needed comfort to millions of women and will stimulate discussions in the mainstream media and our society about the corrosive impact of the natural childbirth and breastfeeding industries on women’s wellbeing. … I will show readers who benefits from making women feel guilty about their choices, and why contemporary childbirth, breastfeeding, and attachment parenting movements are retrograde, sexist, and even dangerous – and in doing so, free women from guilt they have unnecessarily shouldered for far too long.

I’m thrilled that I’ll be working with an amazing editorial team and I can’t wait to get started.

I’m willing to share data I’ve collected and my personal story if you want it. Probably won’t, but man the midwives are so full of it when they try to sell you a home birth and my case demonstrates that pretty well. I made a transcript of the utah midwive’s org meeting that happened after the El Halta charges were filed, it shows their craven lack of concern for newborns quite well.

I am vaguely pro natural birth, but I will buy your book once it comes out. As any initially beneficial movement gets momentum, it needs to be guarded by oposition to remain sensible.

How to Get your husband Back ,after a Divorce or Breakup,,

An amazing testimony on a spell caster who brought my husband back to me.. My name is Natasha Johnson,i live in United Kingdom, and I’m happily married to a lovely and caring husband ,with two kids.A very big problem occurred in my family seven months ago, between me and my husband .so terrible that he took the case to court for a divorce.he said that he never wanted to stay with me again, and that he didn’t love me anymore. So he packed out of the house and made me and my children passed through severe pain. I tried all my possible means to get him back, after much begging, but all to no avail.and he confirmed it that he has made his decision, and he never wanted to see me again. So on one evening,as i was coming back from work,i met an old friend of mine who asked of my husband .So i explained every thing to him,so he told me that the only way i can get my husband back,is to visit a spell caster, because it has really worked for him too.So i never believed in spell, but i had no other choice, than to follow his advice. Then he gave me the email address of the spell caster whom he visited.{bravespellcaster@gmail.com }. So the next morning,i sent a mail to the address he gave to me,and the spell caster assured me that i will get my husband back the next day. What an amazing statement!! I never believed,so he spoke with me,and told me everything that i need to do. Then the next morning, So surprisingly, my husband who didn’t call me for the past seven {7}months,gave me a call to inform me that he was coming back.So Amazing!! So that was how he came back that same day, with lots of love and joy,and he apologized for his mistake, and for the pain he caused me and my children. Then from that day,our relationship was now stronger than how it were before,by the help of a spell caster. So, i will advice you out there to kindly visit the same website { http://enchantedscents.tripod.com/lovespell/},if you are in any condition like this,or you have any problem related to “bringing your ex back. So thanks to the Dr Brave for bringing back my husband ,and brought great joy to my family once again. {bravespellcaster@gmail.com }, Thanks..

Late to the party. Congratulations and kudos for putting the time, effort and expertise into writing a much needed book. Looking forward to the read and wondering if a few copies won’t just find a way into the waiting or exam rooms. Just walked away from a doula who suggested applying Arsenic (guessing she meant Arnica, still, realllllly?) to a minutes old baby to treat facial petechiae following a rapid 2nd stage. Days like these remind me of how much I appreciate having this site to keep me from hitting my head. I’ve decided to give myself the gift of a day of solace and all the hot lattes I can manage to hide away and read your book. Will be looking forward to it.

YAAAAY!! THIS is the book I would give to newly-pregnant friends. I am often asked for recommendations and I just don’t have any because most of the current mommy literature preaches guilt and martyrdom and formula-and-epidurals-kill. So excited for this, Dr. Tuteur!

Congratulations, Dr. T.! Your site was such a wake up call for me when I had my first child. I already knew that the natural childbirth movement was bunk, but somehow I fell for the woo when it came to breastfeeding my baby and let a horrible lactation consultant guilt trip me into believing that my low production was “all my fault” for medicating during childbirth and that my daughter would be materially damaged if I dared to feed her formula.

Well, I combo fed for 10 months and she’s a big, brilliant, healthy 4 year old now, and I hope I have my head on straight this time around — since I just found two pink lines on my pregnancy test.

I am so excited for it!

I hope it starts spreading the truth about breastfeeding pseudoscience around the world. Women are overwhelmed with guilt. Media is spreading it too fast and proud moms who breastfed successfully are contributing to it with making up and exaggerating the benefits. And they are so judgmental and shaming other women because they had it all and think it is easy and always possible for every one. Some babies are suffering because their moms are trying to give them the liquid gold not noticing the harm on their babies.

Thank you Dr.Amy! You are saving lives.

I am an American man, and I have decided to boycott American women. In a nutshell, American women are the most likely to cheat on you, to divorce you, to get fat, to steal half of your money in the divorce courts, don’t know how to cook or clean, don’t want to have children, etc. Therefore, what intelligent man would want to get involved with American women?

American women are generally immature, selfish, extremely arrogant and self-centered, mentally unstable, irresponsible, and highly unchaste. The behavior of most American women is utterly disgusting, to say the least.

This blog is my attempt to explain why I feel American women are inferior to foreign women (non-American women), and why American men should boycott American women, and date/marry only foreign (non-American) women.

    BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN!

Brilliant! This is so badly needed. It is so easy to drown in a tidal wave of minimal fact/maximal guilt books, DVDs and websites considering that the overwhelming majority of information on childbirth fits this mould.
I have long felt that a book like the one you’re writing was needed to go some way to countering the BS. I’ll definitely buy it for my friends and family members that castigate themselves for not breastfeeding/home birthing/forgoing pain relief etc

I would also investigate the possibility of having an audiobook version as well. A surprising number of people sync between listening during commutes [or doing housework] and reading when they can. A well-read audiobook is a real pleasure, and can be very impressive. [I’m a big fan of audio versions in general, as I can do the dishes or knit while listening]

I’m so excited to read this! I just read your piece to your daughter yesterday and it brought me to happy tears. I love your writing. Also, I just stopped breastfeeding my daughter when she was ten months old. She very skinny so I need to monitor her intake, and pumping was just too much while I battled a cold and took care of two kids with colds. So she’s officially on formula and I have so much guilt about it. So I need to read this book!

    • fiftyfifty1
      October 31, 2014 at 7:02 pm #

Having an underweight kid and having to monitor their intake is really nerve wracking. My first was really underweight so I know where you are coming from. Switching to formula at this point sounds like a logical, sensible and healthy decision. I pumped for a long time with my first because I felt that I “should”. If I could go back in time I would change that. If I had switched to formula right away when things were not working out it would have been better for him, me and everybody. I spent a lot of time with a pump, when I could have spent it with my baby. You made the right choice.

    • October 31, 2014 at 7:16 pm #

Oh Melissa, don’t feel guilty! I think as moms, we naturally feel guilty about EVERYTHING! Grant yourself some grace. Be like Elsa and “Let it gooooooooo, let it goooooooooo!!!”

      • Amy M
        November 3, 2014 at 7:58 am #

We, as moms, or as women, or as people, do NOT NEED to feel guilty and I HATE it that we allow society to convince us otherwise. I am a mom. I do not have this free-floating guilt that I am “supposed” to have, and I try hard to get other women, friends, family, to realize that there is no reason for it. Why don’t dads naturally feel guilty? What have you done wrong? Our society blames everything that’s gone wrong on mothers, basically, and feeling guilty means that message has been internalized. As moms, we need to fight this crap and make it clear that we will not shoulder the blame for all the world’s ills, just because we are a convenient scapegoat that will accept it. Stop feeling guilty….if you (general you) feel guilty because you gave your child formula? Then the extremists/lactivists/NCBers/etc have won, and they have you right where they want you.

    • Kelly
      October 31, 2014 at 11:04 pm #

I switched over to formula and it made my life so much better. It will take time for the guilt to dissipate but you will look back and realize that you did the right thing.
